The Alchemists produce magical potions from pools of blue and red slime. You can go through these pools, but you cannot move from a blue pool to a red pool, or vice versa. Pools containing items count as colorless, and they change color to the PC's previous color when the item is picked up. Slime beasts also have to keep to their own color, but when they are killed, they explode, destroying items and changing the color of the slime and slime beasts around them.
